Freak of Nature Thursdays: Wee Animals

Pygmy Marmosets

Pygmy Marmosets are the smallest monkeys in the world. Adults grow to a squeal-inducing 13 cm (5 inches) and can be found in the upper Amazon basin. They live about 11 years in the wild and twice as long in captivity. They eat mostly tree sap and gum, with the occasional insect and fruit side dish.

Green living: Dwarf bunny

Dwarf Bunnies

Cute, furry and only about 1.5kg (2-2.5 lbs.) dwarf rabbits make great pets, but come with a serious cuteness overload warning!

Green living: Einstein the miniature horse

Miniature horses

Miniature horses pretty much take the cake when it comes to cute and the smallest of these is young Einstein. Einstein weighs just 2.7 kg (6 lb) and is 35.5cm (14 inches) tall.

Here’s a video of Einstein herding his two goats through the snow.

Green living: Miniature Hippo

Pygmy hippos

These little baby bundles of blubber wallow in the swamps and forests of West Africa. With less than 3,000 left in the wild, these little guys are facing extinction. Pygmy hippos are only about ¼ as big as their more common cousins, pygmy hippos grow to 75–83 cm (2.46–2.72 ft) and weigh 180–275 kg (400–610 lb).

Green living: Mini Pigs

Micro pigs

Teacup piggies are definitely not going to market! They only grow to a height of 30 cm (12 inches) and weigh between 13-26 kg (30 and 60 lb). Pigs are pretty smart so they can be house trained and make great pets if properly cared for.
